The Woman's Library Club of Glencoe (WLC) was the third women's club to be formed in Illinois and the 61st in the entire country. Organized in 1872 for "social and intellectual improvement," the Club enlarged its purpose in 1928 "to promote...the welfare of the community." The Club chose its name because it was designed to use funds paid by the members to form the nucleus of a library for Glencoe. The first Clubhouse at 654 Greenleaf Avenue, was used from 1906 until 1928. They then moved their Clubhouse to Tudor Court which was built and opened with a formal reception on Oct. 5th, 1938.

The Club re-incorporated in August 2002. The purposes for which the corporation is organized are charitable, civic and educational.

Our current home is in the beautiful Writer's Theatre which was built on the same land as the Clubhouse on Tudor Court.
